If you want to get a "blast from the past," the film, directed by Ms. Ida Lupino is a great one! The 1941 film explores a young women's emotional spiral as she lives through her pregnancy as an unwed woman, and is socialized to feel ashamed, which leads her to have to make a decision about whether she wants to keep the child or not.

Set in 1961, a woman tries to find freedom in America, but is limited by the constricted views on women--that they should WANT children and WANT to settle down, and if they don't want these things, they are made to feel clinically insane. I am sure some women during this time, and even today, often do lose their minds because of our patriarchal society.
